Our job in life is not to make people around us feel lesser. If we are here, we mind as well make life a little brighter. If you have the opportunity to do that for someone else, do it. Cheer them up, comfort them, lend a hand, offer help, do whatever they need in order to feel better. Nothing feels better than that warm feeling around your heart when you truly help someone. So instead of tearing someone down, build them up. People will think of you as someone to remember, because chances are they haven’t had many people do that.

So, yes, I have kind of an obsession with this show. But the social commentary on the time period and the often very insightful and meaningful quotes and ideas are what make this show spectacular to me.
This quote is one of those that I stopped…pondered and realized was so true. Happiness is something you search for. It is also something that comes and goes. As sad as that may be to think sometimes, I can’t help but agree with. But, the positive in this all is that we have the ability to make ourselves happy. We have to find the things that make us joyous, that make us smile. We have to hold onto them and never stop looking for them. I believe we are all capable of finding that one thing or many things that bring us happiness, even if it can be fleeting.
Never stop looking for it.

I thought of this recently and it’s so true. Every time I find a new song that I connect with, it fills in a little piece of me. Each song is the bandage to a wound, a shoulder to cry on, an experience of joy, a reason to dance, and a voice for when you can’t speak.
You can connect with people through the language of music, at that is a beautiful thing. There is always something special when you find a common love for a band, a song, or a genre. It feels like you understand that person on a deeper level.

To me, this quote can mean several different things. I don’t think he means you necessarily need to love to person you consider your enemy. You do not need to feel love for them. Instead, you need to understand them. You need to treat them better, and in being that bigger person, you have won so much. If you can rise above the hatred they have for you, and refuse to hate them in return, you are already better than they will ever be.
In the context this quote was taken from, the preacher’s words are referring to racism. Just because a black person can rise above and avoid reacting to a white person’s hate, does that mean he has become victorious? Probably not, because the hate will still continue. But because he has chosen to turn the other cheek, he knows in his heart that he has done the right thing in the face of the wrong thing. And that’s what it comes down to in the end, staying true and right in the midst of continuous wrong doing. It took tremendous strength to endure the stupidity of racism from the day you were born until the day you died.

So, there has been a song bouncing around in my head, it’s been on repeat over and over on my ipod. There is a verse that just…speaks to me. Not for any philosophical reason or profound reasn, but a personal reason. Everytime I hear it, I stop and just soak the words in. It brought me to tears the first time. Money is important to survive and to live a comfortable life, but it is not all there is. People become too focussed and too wrapped up in the idea of having money, lots of it, that they change. We let this man-made concept, bills and coins with assigned worth, control our lives. We let it determine how we feel about ourselves and how we treat others depending on how much money they have. We judge everyone on their net worth. There is much more to life, and the sooner people realize that people should become before money the better off we would all be.

It’s always been my belief that holding onto hatred, anger and grudges will only bring you down, not the person or thing to which you harbor these feelings. If you fill your life with positive thoughts, love and things that make you happy, your life will be just that. I strive to do this everyday, and often times it’s hard. There will always be things that bring you down, anger you or make you sad, but you just have to learn from them and find the lesson in everything and allow yourself to be happy that you are here and you are healthy. I beseech you to all do the same. Have love in your heart and love for the world and you will always be a happy person, because the world loves you.

Living life is a tight wire act where you’re given no parasol to balance yourself. Influences can come at you from all sides pulling you to make right or wrong decisions. But sometimes it’s so hard to know what the right thing is and what you want to do. Paths often stretch out in front of you like limbs from a tree trunk. You don’t know what you what to be when you grow up, because you are continually growing up. You are exploring, creating, thinking, reinventing yourself. And maybe we don’t know what to do with life, but the journey can be wonderful, if you make it out to be.
